RE: What do I need to plead for different tires?

I "had" Kenda Klevers on our Ameri-Camp. I phoned Kenda with my DOT numbers once I heard about the trouble. They assured me my tires were fine. I watched them like a hawk. Always ran 80 lbs. of air. Our unit is stored inside. In July we blew a passenger side rear tire. Damages were $1500. I'm in contact with Kenda now about covering replacement costs. I thought my tires were good. I know how things get blown out of proportion on the forum. I had faith in what they told me. Well now I have four new tires at a cost of $550 and a $500 deductible. One thing I noticed about 100 miles before the tire let go was it appeared to look over inflated. Upon checking it it was fine, just like the others. I think this was the beginning of tread seperation. Maybe someone who's a tire expert can offer advice. The Kenda's had about 8,000 miles on them. If you're in Frisco, CO and someone offers you 3 good looking Kenda's I'd run the other way!

RE: Fuel Supplies in the South

I was as far south at Indianola, MS last week which is a couple hours south of Memphis. No shortages. I heard of spotty fuel shortages around Nashville, TN and sure enough I stayed at a hotel in Lebanon, TN and both stations at this exit were out of gas (not diesel). However, next morning both were up and running.

RE: How often should you re-pack wheel bearings?

My simple answer: Every other year. We're weekend campers throughout the season and take a two week trip annually.

RE: Planning Trip To Grand Canyon

We stayed at Trailer Village this past July. Right on the bus route and within walking distance of many things. We spent two nights. If your budget allows take a flight over the canyon. We saw deer both evenings about dusk and elk one night right from our lawn chairs.

RE: Hwy 550 Ridgway, Co to Durango, CO.

Silverton to Ouray is the toughest part. I don't see any problems with your rig. I agree with "coptalker" on the steep grades, dropoffs, etc. Beautiful drive.

RE: leave the propane on?

Yes while driving and Yes at home. No once winterized and stored for the season

RE: Towing mirrors for GMC 2500HD

On my 96 GMC I had a set of McKesh and loved them (except the looks). My 2004 has the factory tow mirrors from PowerVision I think. I'd take my McKesh's back in a minute.

RE: New Diesel Owner/help

I've find air/fuel/oil/tranny filters at my local auto parts store. I have 66,000 on my 2004.

RE: 5th Wheel hitch and TV questions

I think the plug in my bed cost about $75 to install. I like this much better than having it dangling over the tailgate.

RE: Looking for a nice place to spend a week!

Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH is a great place. As for the beach, it's on Lake Erie. Not salt water, but nice. We spent a few days there last year. Plenty for the kids to do and the campground is first class.

RE: ON A FAMILY VACATION - shouldn't my tires last longer?

Same story on our Ameri-Camp last month. I've been aware of the Kenda problems the last couple years. I even called the factory with my DOT numbers and they said they were fine. I've been watching them like a hawk since. Ours camper is stored inside so they can't blame weather or UV rays or any other crap. They're cheap tires. Ours gave way on I-70 west of Denver, CO. Unfortunately we suffered body damage and three torn up gas lines. I bought four new ones at Big O in Frisco, CO the next day. I phoned Kenda a few weeks ago and they don't seem to want to help. I'm sending them pictures as soon as I get them. The entire tread came off ours. I have Roger's phone number at Kenda. Send me a PM and I'll give it to you. I gave Kenda every chance. They're cheap junk only good enough for a farm wagon IMHO.

RE: Camping at Disney Orlando

I think you might consider what loop to request. First time we stayed in 1500. This was near the pool, store and outdoor theater/campfire area where they showed movies each night. Kids really enjoyed this. Made reservations about 9 mo. ahead. Second trip we stayed in 800 loop. It was fine, but not so close to the above. But kids were older so it didn't matter. Made reservations 6 mo. in advance, but didn't request any special loop. Not sure what extra they charge for a paved site. Both we've had were fine.

RE: 2008 GM Duramax mileage question

Ours is a few years older, but it's a safe bet the 2008's won't do any better. Average around town 14.5, but I'm only 4 miles from work. Highway 19.5 running around 65. Real world towing 11,000 lbs........ 2008 trip 3600 miles from MO west to CO and on to Las Vegas 9.5 2007 trip 3000 miles from MO east to VA and outer banks 10.5 2006 trip 2500 miles from MO to UP of MI and back 11.5 2005 trip 3200 miles from MO to FL and back 10.5 All the above based on the DIC on board computer. I don't see how some get 13+ towing. Are they possibly stttrreeetttccchhinng the truth?

RE: 5th wheel hitch thoughts

Folks have been towing with single pivot hithces for years. Long before the dual pivot designs. Semis still use this method. FYI- I have a Reese 18K Sig. Series dual pivot and like it very well.

RE: what 5th wheels have four-bed bunkrooms?

We have a quad bunk Ameri-Camp. Single slide in living area. Queen bed up front. Quad bunks in rear. Here's a link to what the factory now shows Ameri-Camp. This is a triple slide model. Not sure if quad bunks are still an option. Someone mentioned Space Craft. Their factory is near us and I think they'll be pretty expensive. They custom build some heavy duty stuff.

RE: Duramax Died!

CHV_FRK I have the stock injectors. Also, I've never had any problems with overheating. Temps in AZ/NV were near 100. Now for the rest of the story................had a tire blow out July 12th on I-70 in CO just east of the tunnel at Loveland Pass. One of those quality Kenda's. With 3 boys, a four way wrench and a few boards we were back on the road in 15 minutes. Monday July 14th four new tires from Big O in Frisco, CO (beware if you live in this area and see 3 Kenda's for sale). More on this later.

Duramax Died!

Sort of died..........July 15, 2008 2:30PM southeastern UT between Monticello and Blanding. Engine lost power and started knocking. Check engine light came on. Actually the story is more about how nice folks treated us. Frank Montella of Montella's repair showed up in less than 1 hour with tow truck (sent via AAA). Took us to Blanding. Engine code indicated #7 injector problem. He phoned Moab Chevrolet and verifed engine was under warrantly. They could work on it right away. Dropped 5er at Blue Mountain RV Park (right across the street from the shop). My wife asked where the nearest grocery store was. Owner Reenis said 2 miles. My wife said she'd take the kids and walk there in the morning. He immediately volunteered to drive her that night. July 16 7:00AM left Blanding for trip to Moab (90 miles). Truck on hauler. Arrived at Moab Chevrolet 8:30AM. They verified it was the connector to #7. Replaced #7 and #2 injector connectors (under warrantly). Out in 1 hour. Back in Blanding by noon and on the road towards Lake Powell by 1PM. Can't say enough about Montella's Repair, Blue Mountain RV Park, and Moab Chevrolet. They all treated us like family. For you Duramax folks I have a 2004 with 61,000 miles (LLY engine). Moab Checy had kit to fix in stock. Seems to be a weak link.

RE: Rookie To Rockies

The longest trip we've taken is 18 days, but here's a few tips. I like having a generator. Only pack clothes for about 5-6 days and plan to do laundry. Only pack enough food for 3-4 days. Grocery stores are everywhere. If weights an issue, limit the amount of water you carry. Go through your storage compartments. Remove the stuff you know you won't need. Don't haul fire wood. Have fun.

RE: MDT Owners - Spare or No Spare Tire

We have a small fleet of MDT's and Class 8's. We used to carry a spare mounted on a wheel. Now we only carry a tire. Reason why is it's not practical to change yourself so save the weight of the wheel. Carry a tire so we're not caught somewhere without access to a tire or where the price might to too high for a replacement.

RE: Bike rack for square bumper

We bought ours at Camping World about 9 years ago. I believe it's call the Turbo Bike Rack. Attaches to rear bumper with "U" bolts. We've never had any problems. Used it on our TT, now 5er. I know folks are saying your bumper will fall off, but we've never had any trouble and we've travelled thousands of miles.
